Working in a branch

Our branches are as varied as the customers we serve. In fact, each one of our brands will have ways of their own ways of working, plus different staffing needs and processes to ensure we deliver the same exceptional service, no matter where you are in the country. Here’s a glimpse of some of the roles available in our branches.

Typical roles in our branches

Sales Advisors

Our inside sales teams represent the beating heart of every branch. The roles are varied – and there is internal progression to senior sales and other service roles within many of our branches. The one focus all these roles have in common is the customer. Our customers rely on our knowledge and expertise, and that starts at our trade counters and over the phone - advising and guiding customers on the right solutions for them. You don’t need detailed industry knowledge to join us (although it helps) because we’ll train you and share our knowledge. What you do need is great people skills, ambition and willingness to learn, plus the drive to always go the extra mile for the customer.

Branch Managers

This role is the head of the branch family. For some of our larger sites, you’ll need a strong operations manager background – as our headcount in larger sites can be more than 20 colleagues – so managing multiple processes and shifts and a large operation is the task here. At the other end of the spectrum, some of our smaller branches can operate with fewer than five colleagues. In branches like these, we need leaders who can ‘muck-in’ on shift and be as adept at selling and serving as they are at organising and inspiring. One aspect common to all of our managers is to have a passion for great customer service.

Operational Roles

Our customers trust Wolseley because of the great service they receive. Thankfully, you’ll be backed up by having products available in great condition and delivered on time and in full. In some of our larger branches, we have dedicated warehouse and yard roles to ensure just that – keeping the stock flowing through the operation and in great condition, plus getting it to customers quickly and carefully, and ensuring that the highest standards of health and safety are upheld. You’ll still be great with customers, and be a part of what keeps them coming back time and again.

Operational Roles

Drivers

The only people more visible to customers than our sales advisors are our drivers. You’ll be the ‘smiling face’ of our business. We have a large fleet of commercial vehicles, and have many roles of different sizes and scales to make sure our products get to our customers in great condition, on time, and in full. Nothing is more important to us than safety. We expect our drivers to be diligent, professional and safe at all times. We offer exceptional driver training and career progression, with many of our driver colleagues moving into transport and supply chain functions as their next step.

Meet some of the team

Graham Wyles, Deputy Manager (Eastbourne)

I was attracted to Wolseley because it seemed to be a good company to work for and the role suited my skills and experience. I really enjoy working here and the team at the Eastbourne store are great people to work with. The nature of the work and the company means I have the freedom to learn and develop every day.

Meet some of the team

Tim Margetts, Sales Assistant

I really enjoy working in my branch, because the manager’s very good and is very fair to every member of staff. We have good relationships with customers and a good health and safety record. Wolseley give you a lot of benefits. As well as things like the tools and equipment you need to do your job, you get money off your mobile phone bill and there are staff competitions and the staff lottery. The Sharesave scheme and pension are really good, too.
