Working in supply chain

A market-leading merchant requires a market-leading supply chain – and that’s exactly what we’ve built. From our modern distribution centres, to our transport and inventory management, we have a great set up – and it’s all underpinned by recruiting, training and retaining the very best people. If you want to be part of a business area that keeps Wolseley moving, and therefore keeps the homes, businesses and infrastructure of the UK moving, then read on.

Key teams in Supply Chain

Distribution Centres

Our three distribution centres represent the lifeblood of our business – delivering in-night services to our branches and ensuring our customers get the products they need when they need them. There’s a wide variety of roles within the sites at Martson Gate, Melmerby and Measham with everyone completely focused on ensuring stock moves quickly and in great condition from our suppliers to those who need it – whilst ensuring the very highest of safety standards. Our sites run multiple shift patterns for operatives, and offer great career progression where our colleagues can obtain training and apprenticeships through our Wolseley Talent Guild to move up through the ranks – to shift supervisors and team leaders, through operations managers and all the way up to being General Manager.

Transport

An operation the scale of ours requires expertise and a best practice approach to moving product. Our transport teams, both on our own fleet and with our third-party suppliers, provide that expertise and work across our business to ensure that we safely and consistently get product to our customers on time and in full in the most cost-effective way possible. We set exceptionally high standards, and work across our fleet to constantly push ourselves to beat industry benchmarks – with FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) Gold and Silver standards in place across many of our operations and the route to more Gold certifications being a core target for the team.

Inventory

When you have so many aspects to your business, as we do, controlled and proactive inventory management is absolutely key to our collective success. Our inventory team is chock-full of expertise and utilises the very best of systems and exceptional relationships with suppliers to ensure that our stock availability, turnover and capacity is the best in the trade. This is a team with a far reach across our business, and a great reputation – even when confronted with global pandemics and global supply pressures, they keep the business moving and keep our customers on the front foot.

Meet some of the team

Louise Parsons, Senior Inventory Manager

Wolseley is a respected brand and an industry leader, which is what attracted me to them. They have a strong set of values and are focused on diversity, driving equal opportunities and health and safety, which makes you proud to work for them. I’m new to the industry and feel I’ve been really well supported since joining. There’s a lot of engagement across teams, sharing experience and knowledge and people’s opinions are listened to and valued. You feel like you can really add value and make a difference.

Meet some of the team

John Broome, Distribution Centre General Manager

The reason I joined Wolseley was because it was a large multi-national company that ran its own transport. I also knew that there was a large number of long servers here, which spoke for itself. And it’s only a short commute from where I live, which helped! What makes working here so enjoyable is that the company empowers its people to work to their full potential. That’s part of its core values and it’s what keeps me here - I enjoy seeing people develop and the operation becoming stronger as a result.
